5-Step Morning Skincare Routine for Radiant and Glowing Skin

Updated: Oct 1

Morning skin care is essential for maintaining healthy and glowing skin throughout the day. Here are some reasons why morning skin care is important:

  • Hydrates and nourishes the skin: Using moisturizers and serums in the morning helps to keep the skin hydrated, plump, and youthful-looking.

  • Prepares the skin for makeup: A good morning skin care routine creates a smooth canvas for makeup application, helping it last longer and look more flawless.

  • Promotes skin health: Regular morning skin care routines can address specific skin concerns like acne, aging, or sensitivity, leading to overall healthier skin.

  • Protects skin from environmental damage: Applying products like sunscreen and antioxidants in the morning helps shield the skin from harmful UV rays and pollution.

Step 1: Cleanse

Micellar Water: I prefer not to cleanse my face more than once daily due to my dry skin type. Using a cotton pad soaked in micellar water is an effective method to gently cleanse and hydrate the skin simultaneously. Make sure to rinse your face with water after applying to prevent any potential drying.

You really can't go wrong with any drugstore micellar water. My favorite is the Bioderma Sensibio H2O Micellar Water. I find it is best to use micellar water with the Shiseido Facial Cotton Pads.

Step 2: Brighten

Vitamin C Serum: Incorporating a vitamin C serum into your skincare routine is an excellent way to illuminate and even out the skin tone. Vitamin C should be gently patted into the skin, and it is crucial to follow up with sunscreen when using this serum.

Vitamin C serums seems to be everywhere. I have tried countless products over the years and have found that my favorite one by far is SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic (minus the smell). The price tag on this is quite steep. I have also used Timeless Skin Care Vitamin C Serum with Vitamin E & Ferulic Acid which has a much more economical price. I like to use this as it also has Vitamin E and Ferulic Acid.

Step 3: Hydrate

Hyaluronic Acid: Hyaluronic acid is a fantastic way to enhance skin moisture and hydration. Avoid applying it to dry skin as it may draw moisture from the skin.

I have found a number of different hyaluronic acid serums that work great with my skin. SkinCeuticals makes a great Hyaluronic Acid Intensifier although I have found I prefer their Hydrating B5 Gel better (also a bit cheaper). I also love the La Roche-Posay Hyalu B5 Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum and the Timeless Skin Care Hyaluronic Acid Vitamin C Serum.

Step 4: Moisturize

Moisturizer: Moisturizer aids in nourishing the skin and sealing in hydration. It forms a protective barrier that locks in the benefits of the preceding skincare steps.

My go-to daytime face moisturizer has to be ETUDE House SoonJung 2x Barrier Intensive Cream. This might be my most re-purchased product since I first learned about it in 2020. It is lightweight, fragrance free and will not leave your skin feeling oily. My second runner up is the La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer. This is a great option as there are no known harmful ingredients and it is easier to find as it is available at basically every major drug store.

Step 5: Protect

Sunscreen: This step is paramount in any skincare routine. It is vital for shielding the skin from harmful UV rays that can lead to sunburn, premature aging, and an increased risk of skin cancer. A well-crafted skincare routine can be compromised by the damaging effects of UV rays.

It's important to use an SPF over 30 for optimal protection. I have a few sunscreens in my rotation at the moment. My current favotires are:
